Many Ways to Make a Difference
You do not need to be an expert to contribute. You may be someone looking for a place to begin, an experienced professional ready to pass knowledge forward, a community member with a few hours to give, or an organization seeking meaningful local impact.
Every contribution can help create an opportunity for someone to learn, build confidence, strengthen their capabilities, and take a step toward greater independence.
Learn With Us
Discover practical, creative, vocational, and entrepreneurial learning through instructor-led workshops, courses, demonstrations, and community programs.
Ontario SEA programs are designed to make hands-on education welcoming and useful. Depending on current programming, participants may explore areas such as sewing, textiles, craftsmanship, repair and reuse, sustainability, design, skilled-trades awareness, entrepreneurship, and other practical fields.
No previous experience is required for many introductory programs. Program availability, fees, eligibility, age requirements, and financial assistance may vary.
Teach or Mentor
The knowledge you have developed through years of work, practice, creativity, or life experience can become part of someone else’s future.
We welcome expressions of interest from educators, artisans, makers, tradespeople, retired professionals, entrepreneurs, and other experienced individuals who may wish to:
- Lead a workshop, course, or demonstration
- Mentor an emerging learner or aspiring entrepreneur
- Introduce participants to a practical field or skilled trade
- Help develop educational content or hands-on projects
- Share traditional, technical, creative, or industry knowledge
- Advise Ontario SEA on program quality and community needs
Teaching and mentoring opportunities depend on program needs, funding, qualifications, participant-safety requirements, and organizational capacity. Some roles may be volunteer-based, while approved instructional roles may be paid where funding and program arrangements allow.
Volunteer
Volunteers help turn ideas into accessible community experiences. You can contribute regularly, assist with a particular program or event, or offer specialized knowledge for a defined project.
Volunteer opportunities may include:
- Welcoming participants and supporting registration
- Preparing learning spaces, tools, and materials
- Assisting instructors during workshops
- Helping with events, outreach, and community engagement
- Supporting communications, photography, or storytelling with appropriate consent
- Contributing administrative, technology, marketing, or fundraising skills
- Helping organize donated equipment and materials
- Supporting program evaluation and participant feedback
Volunteer roles are matched with current needs, individual interests, relevant experience, availability, and appropriate supervision. Roles involving children, youth, vulnerable individuals, finances, confidential information, or specialized equipment may require references, training, screening, or a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Become a Community Partner
Lasting community impact is created through collaboration.
Ontario SEA welcomes partnerships with schools, colleges, libraries, municipalities, employment and newcomer-support organizations, community groups, businesses, industry associations, funders, and other not-for-profit organizations.
Together, we may be able to:
- Identify unmet learning and employment-related needs
- Co-develop or host accessible programs
- Reach people who face barriers to participation
- Share facilities, equipment, expertise, or referral networks
- Introduce participants to further education and career pathways
- Create mentorship, demonstration, or experiential-learning opportunities
- Advance repair, reuse, sustainability, and knowledge preservation
- Evaluate outcomes and strengthen future programming
Each partnership is developed around shared objectives, clearly defined responsibilities, participant benefit, available resources, and appropriate written agreements.
Engage Your Business or Organization
Businesses and professional organizations can make a meaningful local contribution while helping preserve the skills, knowledge, and capabilities their industries need.
Ways to participate may include:
- Sponsoring a workshop, participant place, or program series
- Providing employee volunteers or skills-based professional support
- Offering industry demonstrations, workplace insights, or mentorship
- Contributing tools, equipment, materials, technology, or facilities
- Supporting transportation, accessibility, or other participation needs
- Collaborating on practical education connected to community and workforce needs
- Funding the development of a new program or learning resource
Ontario SEA will work with prospective partners to develop an arrangement that reflects our mission, community priorities, participant safety, and the nature of the contribution. Recognition opportunities may be available where appropriate and consistent with funder, legal, and ethical requirements.
Contribute Tools, Materials, Space, or Expertise
Access to tools, equipment, materials, and suitable learning space can determine whether a hands-on program is possible.
Individuals and organizations may be able to support our work by contributing:
- New or gently used tools and equipment in safe working condition
- Fabrics, craft materials, components, and program supplies
- Computers, technology, or educational resources
- Temporary workshop, classroom, meeting, or event space
- Transportation or delivery assistance
- Printing, photography, legal, accounting, technology, marketing, or other professional expertise
Please contact Ontario SEA before delivering any item. We can accept only contributions that are safe, suitable, needed, and practical for our current programs and storage capacity.

How Getting Involved Works

Select the opportunity that best reflects your interests: learn, teach, mentor, volunteer, partner, sponsor, or contribute resources.
2. Tell Us About Yourself
Complete the appropriate short interest form. We collect only the information reasonably needed to understand your request and identify a suitable opportunity.
3. Connect With Our Team
If there is a possible match, an Ontario SEA representative will contact you to discuss current needs, expectations, availability, qualifications, accessibility considerations, and next steps.
4. Complete Any Role Requirements
Depending on the opportunity, this may include an interview, references, orientation, training, safety instructions, confidentiality commitments, proof of qualifications, or screening appropriate to the role.
5. Create Impact Together
Once an appropriate match is confirmed, you will receive information about your responsibilities, schedule, support, supervision, and point of contact.
Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee placement, participation, funding, employment, or a partnership. Opportunities depend on program needs, eligibility, safety considerations, funding, and organizational capacity.
